The family Eumeces consist out of 50 species, and 750 subspecies.
As for the species Tiliqua, is the most common the snail- and blue tongue skink.
They are one of the few reptiles you can really touch and pet, and the animals doesn't mind.
Cage demands
Eumeces Schneiderii subspecies 100x40x40 cm for three lizards.
Eumeces Mabuya subspecies 100x40x40 cm for three lizards.
Eumeces Tiliqua subspecies 150x50x50 cm for two lizards.
Never place two males in one cage.
Place sand on the floor.
Floor heatting is a good option.
Tempeture: 30 celcius. at night 20 celcius. direct under the spotts max 45 celcius.
RV: as low as posible.
Feeding
Insects, Rather only few crickets.
Baby mice are very good, when they eat them.
Also place every week a plate with vegetables.
Difference in gender
This is not easy.
This can be distinguist by the pre-anale porien.
Males are wider and have a larger head,
and are brighter colored.
Mating and reproduction
2-3 months winter hybernation by 10-20 celcius. and 6-8 hours of light.
Watch out for the female, the male can be too horny.
The females carry their eggs for 2 months,
And then lay 5-20 eggs in the sand.
The skinks can sometimes eat their own eggs so remove them and place them to inqubate.
Do so at 28-30 celcius. and they will hatch after 8-10 weeks.
