Common information

The family Elaphe has 60 species,
Which can be found in North-America, Azie, and Europe.
Multiple snakes in one cage is posible and not harmful to the snakes,
They even can be combinated with lizards.
Cage demands
The common rule: 1,5 times the length of the snake,
is the diameter of the cage you need.
Keep in mind that an Elaphe grows up to180 cm so 180X1,5= 270 cm in diameter.
Snakes do drink, change skin, and cool down in a waterbowl, so that requierd.
Tempeture: 25-30 celcius while day. Elaphe Schrenki 20-25 celcius.
RV: low RV so do not put the water bowl under the spot.
Put a box with soil in it, to lay their eggs in and as shelter.
Pieces of wood, stones, and other stuff is very much apreciated.
Feeding
Mice and rats.
Give rather a rat baby than a fully grown mouse,
They are easyer to digest, and adult mice occasionately the snake.
Difference in gender
The most reliable manier is sonderen.
"Popping" is according to some persons also a good manier,
but only 100% reliable by males, because some males keep their muscles conntracted,
causing the hemipenissen not to "pop" out, letting to "popper" think it is a female.
You can for ensurement look to the tale but thats far from reliable !
Mating and reproduction
Before you put your snake in winter hybernation his intestins should be empty,
so stop feeding at least a month rather 2 months before winter sleep,
When a snake it putted in winter hybernation when fed it will die.
Put the snake in December to sleep by 10 celcius or 50 fahrenheit.
Elaphe lays 5 to 30 eggs every summer.
The eggs will 99 out of 100 times be laid in the box with soil,
Wheter rhe snake has lain her eggs is not always very noticeble,
so look for them often.
Do not place a fully grown snake with a brother or sister,
The gens will start coping the flows and a larger percent of "syndrom of down" snakes will be the result.
This can be hunchbacks, large or deformed heads, or other inhealhty snakes.
Experience
Elaphe is an easy beatyful snake, the perfect snake to start with.
Elaphe can be combined with other Elaphe,
Rather no lizards, lizards make schok movements, wich will stress your snake.
Reproducement is very easy.
