is an 5-7 cm or 2-3 inches big tree spider. With typical longer the back legs longer than the front ones. It is an wide spider in ussually a brownish color. In the 18th century was this spider first seen with an bird on his teeth, so it was called the bird spider. This spider is an tree spider so birds are common food in the wild. Bird in latin is "avis" thats why the familie is called Avicularia.

Cage demands

40x40 cm or 16x16 inches for an adult spider.
Do not place a spider in a to large cage, the spider will be unable to find or hunt his prey. Young spiders will fit in an cricketbox, and other spiders except for adults will fit in an chineese food box..

This can be seen by the little boll of sperm near the teeth, when it is an male.


Mating

When mating the spiders will stand upwards against each other, touching the legs of the other spider. After mating the female will produce an web with 50-200 eggs in it, These will hatch after approxemaly 4 weeks. Under normal curcomstances (food) the spiderlings are not cannabalistic. So raising them in small groups is possible, but rather solo.
